This stuff should be shouted from the rooftops in the west; it's travesty. But governments around the world find ways of isolating, intimidating and just 'disappearing' the only estate that can hold them to account. I worked at the British journal Index on Censorship for a while, and it amazed me then as it does now just how much legwork it requires to realize just how imperiled free speech and media is around the world.
